What is Penetration Testing?
A penetration test (also known as a pen test) is a security readiness operation that tests the effectiveness of existing physical and cyber security measures and uncovers any vulnerabilities in the system.
The objective of a penetration test is to reveal weaknesses in physical and digital security systems in order to mitigate respective security breaches.
Physical security devices such as surveillance detection cameras, access control card readers, intrusion detection systems, mechanical bollard systems, perimeter fencing, control access points, etc. are all areas that can be targeted.
Digital infrastructure (i.e. data centers and databases, networks, digital access control systems, etc.) can also be targeted via simple or sophisticated attacks.
Typical Clients
Penetration tests are typically for large corporations or organizations with sensitive facilities that are interested in having their physical or digital security tested for breaches. This includes testing to breach or defeat the physical or digital security system in place for the purpose of closing security gaps and breaches.
Large corporations and government agencies such as Amazon or the US Department of Energy are examples of organizations who hire elite teams to regularly plan and conduct sophisticated penetration tests.
Who Conducts Penetration Tests
This type of operation is an attack simulation carried out by highly-trained security advisors and cyber security experts.
Hyperion employs security operators with experience conducting penetration tests for small to large corporations as well as government installations and facilities.
